Refresh your research skills over Easter

  • Did you know that the Library now provides access to over 17,000 electronic journals?

  • Do you know how to receive email alerts from the databases and journals in your research areas?
  • Do you know what RSS newsfeeds are?
  • When involved in research projects can you manage your references easily?

If your answer to any of these questions is ‘no’, then the Library can provide the answers in one of the three sessions which are running during the Easter vacation.  They are exclusively for Academic staff and Research Associates.

The sessions are:

Tracing research information, Monday 30th March 2.00-4.00pm, SM1.09

Keeping your research up-to-date, Thursday 2nd April, 2.00-4.00pm, SM1.09

RefWorks, Tuesday 21st April, 10.00am-12.00 noon, SM1.09
- Thise session outlines the benefits of the bibliographic software tool RefWorks, as well as how to import and manage references in RefWorks using folders and descriptors.

ticTOCs – a new way to keep up to date

ticTOCs is a new scholarly Journal Table of Contents (TOCs) service which helps you keep up to date with what is being published in 12,000 journals from 430 publishers. You can carry out a keyword search to discover the table of contents matching your research and you can quickly load the relevant references you find into RefWorks. You can retrieve the full text where we have a subscription and you can also import RSS feeds into your favourite feed reader such as Google Reader or BlogLines. Access is from www.tictocs.ac.uk.  It is a free service but registering enables you to store your newsfeeds.


Library celebrates Loughborough’s contribution to Engineering

In celebration of the National Science and Engineering Weeknsew-logo, the Library has on display books (and related objects) written by members of the Science and Engineering Faculties.

See a collection of water collection pots and latrine slab from the Water, Engineering & Development Centre (WEDC), as well as many text books, research monographs and reference works authored by members of the Engineering Depts here at Loughborough.

You may also be amused (horrified?) to see what luxury items you could purchase in the place of some of our pricier library resources.   Check out the display cabinets next to the issue desk to see what resource costs as much as a 5-bed detached house…
